Abstract

Abstract: A dictionary or vocabulary is a list of words in a language. Dictionaries consist of definitions of a particular word or other language equivalents of particular words.  Sectoral dictionaries are used to list a particular field of words. Generally, dictionaries are published in book form. In 1904, the first dictionary of Tamil words was printed by C.W. Katiraivelpillai and published in three volumes.  The first edition appeared in 1910, the second in 1912, and the third in 1923. These were printed and published by the Madurai Tamil Sangam. It was also known as the Sanga Dictionary and the Tamil Sanga Dictionary. In total 1800 pages covering all three parts, 63,900 words are explained. In this article we will find various Tamil word dictionaries that have been developed in Tamil in Indian languages.
