Abstract

ABTRACT: Thirukural is considered to be the masterpiece of the Tamil literary pantheon. It is short, pithy, concise and suggestive. In fact, it is the summum bonum of Tamil ethical values. The aim of this study is to explore the Thirukural knowledge and scope among IX standard students. The samples in this study were selected from Government schools, government-aided schools, and private schools in the Chennai district. Each school was randomly chosen with 100 students and 300 among IX standard students Simple random sampling was used to select 300 students from the general population. The data collection was done with the help of the guide teacher, based on standardized knowledge criteria and advice from experts and educators. Based on the findings of this study, there is a correlation between the knowledge scope of Thirukkural and the score of the Tamil achievement test. There is no difference between Thirukural knowledge scope and Tamil achievement test between among IX standard students. There is no difference between the Thirukural knowledge and Tamil achievement test for Tamil medium students and English medium students.  It was found that there is a difference between the Tamil achievement test and Thirukural knowledge scope for government school, government-aided school, and private school students
