Abstract: Nadaswaram is the most significant and the oldest instruments among the wind-pouring music instruments. It was using not only Temple worshipping ceremomonies, but also in religious and other festivals, marriage functions and ceremonies. Different types of Folk music instruments are using by the people and each one has it’s own historical importance. Using Nadaswaram in Thanjavur region is a traditional and historical significant one. Though the people are using different types of folk music, Nadaswaram is the most significant and popular one. It plays a significant role in Folk-Arts like Kavadi Attam, Karakattam, Mailattam etc. and this paper analyse the importance and values of Nadaswaram in Folk Art and Music.
