This study primarily draws upon the *Paadaan Thinai* poems found in the *Purananuru* anthology as its primary source material. Specifically, this article focuses on the theme of "Virtue within Valour" (*Marathil Aram*). Sociological and Marxist approaches have been employed as the methodological frameworks for this research. Ancient Tamil society was characterised by a "Heroic Age," in which warfare was the predominant occupation. Military expeditions were frequently undertaken to expand national boundaries. This study seeks to examine how these invasions were conducted in accordance with ethical principles, and how poets guided and counselled kings—who were often inclined solely toward valour—by imparting moral wisdom. Furthermore, the research explores how the various constituents of Tamil society—including kings, warriors, common people, and poets—lived their lives with a harmonious blend of both valour and virtue, not only in their private domestic spheres but also in their public social realms.
