Abstract

'Bharani' literature is a genre of poetry that glorifies a specific battlefield, the events that transpired there, and the monumental victories achieved by a hero. It explores external themes such as the nature of the battlefield, the plight of fallen warriors, and the dynamics of combat. Through the themes presented in *Kalingathupparani*—such as the warriors' patriotism and their heroic deaths while fighting fearlessly at the forefront-one gains insight into the valorous spirit of women. This is evident in their expectation that their husbands be brave, their disdain for death resulting from wounds sustained while fleeing, and their pride in extolling their husbands' heroism; thus, women are portrayed as possessing a valor akin to that of men...
