Abstract

"Irulil Mulaittha Mirugam" (The Beast Born in Darkness) is a collection of Dalit short stories by the writer Yaakkan. The title story realistically portrays how oppressed people in the southern districts themselves secure justice in the face of caste-based atrocities committed against them. These stories center on the self-respect of the oppressed and their retaliatory response to caste-based oppression.
