Abstract

This study examines how the history of Tamil Nadu and the historical realities of Tamil literary tradition are reconstructed through the commentaries written on the Sollathikaaram of the Tolkaappiyam by six commentators. The commentaries of Ilampooraṇar, Seenavaraiyar, Naccinaarkkiṉiyar, Deivacchilayaar, Kallaaṭanaar, and the anonymous ancient commentator serve as significant sources that illuminate the chronology of literary works, textual traditions, bardic lineages, and political–geographical information from the Sangam period to the post-Sangam era.
