Abstract

Sangam literature is structured around the inner and outer life of human beings. Within it, valor and love stand as two components. Valor speaks of the external life, while love expresses the inner life. In the inner life that explains love, during the premarital phase known as kalavu, the hero who belongs to the heroine, in the context of married life called karpu, goes toward courtesans. Although the conduct of courtesans is considered improper, the society of that time accepted and lived with it...
