Abstract

The Sangam Tamils revered and worshipped nature, living in harmony with it. They structured their way of life in unity with the natural world, leading a life of beauty and grace. They valued relationships, excelled in hospitality, and made love and righteousness the core principles of their lives, thereby enriching both themselves and their communities. In contrast, in contemporary times, with the notion of "civilization" as a weapon, people have moved towards modernity. Traditional practices and customs, once prevalent in rural communities, are now on the brink of extinction. In the poem " Oru Kramathu Nathi" by the poet sculptor, the beauty of the village, the significance of the flowing river, the rural way of life, and the memories of the people are documented. The poet not only captures these aspects but also portrays the impending destruction of nature and rural culture, alongside the people’s immersion in superstitions even as scientific advancements soar into space. In today's mechanized world, the essay highlights that loving nature is what keeps life alive and vibrant.
