Abstract

In the land of India, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata occupy a prominent place as epic narratives. Inspired by the Ramayana authored by Valmiki, numerous versions of the epic have been translated into various Indian languages, each embodying the unique culture and literary tradition of its respective region. In this lineage, the version composed in Tamil by Kambar is known as Kambaramayanam. Through this epic, Kambar has eloquently articulated the cultural values and ethos of the Tamil people, employing the beauty and richness of the Tamil language. It is a remarkable feature of his work that his verses are permeated with the Amudha Tamizh. The nectar-like Tamil found in the literary compositions of the Alwars, the poet saints who preceded him. The supreme excellence and embodiment of Kambar Kambaramayanam lie in the fact that he composed it as an expression of his profound devotion to Lord Vishnu, channelling the very essence of the Alwars divine Tamil.
