The architecture of ancient Tamils was not just a collection of stones but a sophisticated science based on the laws of acoustics and physics. Records of the acoustic environment of temples are found in the devotional literatures Thevaram and Thiruvasakam.Among these, this article examines the musical pillars, sanctum sanctorum design and sound-amplifying structures found in Tamil Nadu temples with the help of literary sources.
