Natrinai, Natrinai, one of the Eight Anthologies (Ettuthokai) of Sangam literature, offers profound insights into the inner (akam) life and cultural practices of the ancient Tamils. The poems of Natrinai reveal that the early Tamil people sustained their livelihood through diverse economic activities adapted to their ecological environments. Agriculture, trade, animal husbandry, fishing, and other occupational practices constituted the principal means of meeting their material needs and ensuring economic stability. These productive activities not only strengthened the economic foundation of society but also contributed significantly to its social and cultural development.
